Intercity High Speed Rail
Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City is 25 kilometers from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and 35 kilometers away from Guangzhou City Centre. Phase 2 of the Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen Intercity High Speed Rail will connect the Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City directly with the cities of Dongguan and Shenzhen. When completed, it would take only 15 minutes to reach the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, 45 minutes to reach Shenzhen and 1 hour to reach Hong Kong from the Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City.
Strong Local Government Support
The Guangzhou Development District government is the local authority overseeing the growth and development of the Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City. The district was established in 1984, and is one of China’s top state-level development zones today. In 2014, it registered a total output amounting to RMB 220 billion, a growth of 7.5% year-on-year. Fixed Assets Investment amounted to RMB 57.7 billion while tax revenues amounted to RMB 60.1 billion – the highest of China’s state-level development zones. In 2014, the Guangzhou Development District successful implemented 127 major development projects, involving a total investment of RMB 22.4 billion.
The Guangzhou Development District is well-accustomed to serving international businesses across a wide range of industries, having successfully attracted approximately 2,700 foreign companies from over 60 countries, of which 108 are Fortune 500 companies. In total, the Guangzhou Development District is host to around 6,000 companies today.
Access to Comprehensive Talent Base
Guangzhou has a strong and comprehensive talent base which the Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City can leverage on. The 63 universities in Guangzhou produce over 100,000 skilled graduates annually. There are also seven state-level and provincial-level technical colleges, 197 research institutes and 124 state, provincial, and municipal-level technical engineering research centers in Guangzhou. There are various policies and incentives in place to attract overseas talent and professionals to Guangzhou to augment the overall talent development.
Large Consumer Market Potential
The Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City is situated in the heart of the Pearl River Delta, an economically dynamic region, In 2014, the Pearl River Delta region, which occupies 0.57% of China’s land area, generated a Gross Domestic Product of over RMB 5.8 trillion, accounting for 9.33% of China’s national GDP. With a population base of over 57 million, this translates to a GDP per capita of RMB 100,000. According to the “Guangdong Provincial Urbanization Plan 2012-20,” the Pearl River Delta is expected to grow its GDP to RMB 7.3 trillion by 2020, thus delivering a GDP per capita of RMB 135,000 by then, thereby raising the living standards of the middle to upper income population in the country and region. On a standalone basis, the Pearl River Delta’s GDP alone has been ranked amongst the Top 20 national economies in the world.
